If I Saw Your Calendar, What Would I Think Matters Most to You?

Much of your time is already spoken for. Work has to be done. Bills have to be paid. People depend on you.

But not every hour is spoken for. And how you spend the time you do control often tells a different story than the one you tell yourself about what matters.

How many of these feel familiar?

  • If someone saw only your calendar for the last month, they might struggle to identify the things you say matter most.

  • The people you care about often get your time after work and everything else have taken their share.

  • Even when you’re with people who matter to you, part of your attention is often still somewhere else.

  • You let work take more of your time than it should, because it’s easier to justify than protecting time for something that matters just as much.

  • When genuinely free time appears, it often disappears before it reaches the things you actually wanted it for.

What might that be telling you?

None of us gets to spend every hour on what matters most. Obligations are part of a life. The more revealing question is what happens to the time and attention you can influence.

Do the people and things you say matter most actually get it — or do they get what’s left over, once everything else has had its turn?

Your calendar isn’t a perfect record of what you value. But it is evidence.
